Feroz Shah Kotla Fort and its history with djinns

Located between Old and New Delhi, Feroz Shah Kotla Fort was built in 1354 by Sultan Feroz Shah Tughlaq, when he was ruling the city from 1351 to 1384. The fort, built by the Mughal king, is also one of the oldest structures in Delhi.

As history has it, the Mughals built this fort when they decided to shift their capital from Tughlakabad to Firozabad because of a shortage of water in that region. This fort, built along the Yamuna river, was believed to solve the water crisis. Madrasas, palaces, beautiful gardens, and mosques were built inside the fort, which served as the symbol of reign for the third ruler of Tughlaqabad dynasty.

People believe that the fort is home to djinns and those, who harness such beliefs, visit this fort to seek blessings and solutions to their issues. Not just this, people also perform exorcisms here for those who are believed to be under the spell of evil spirits. Believe it or not, there are people who swear by it.

Those believing in Islam are of the view that while light created angels and clay created humans, djinns were brought to life by smokeless fire. And those believing in supernatural powers, come here, write letters stating their problems, and leave them behind for the supernatural powers to take care of.

As per myths, djinns are also capable of living thousands of years, and just like humans, are capable of bearing a family too. While you might or might not believe in such stuff, Feroz Shah Kotla Fort definitely deserves a visit.

If records are to be believed, this story about djinns started in 1977, when people started flocking to the fort a few months after the Emergency. However, experts on supernatural theory state that djinns have been living here for the past four decades.
