Madagan Pond is seems to be a large step-well, situated at Raisen Fort, in district Raisen about 23 Km away from Sanchi, and close to the Kos Minar and Pameya Temple. As this is an ancient Fort, was built by Rai Singh in 1143 on a hill which is about 150 metres high. It has an exemplary water harvesting or water storage system besides many architectural structures among them is the most fascinating are Itradan, famous for acoustic design and whole Royal Complex including many large and small water tanks, Madagan Pond is among them. As this pond is built at an extreme slope towards North-West, in the shape of a rectangle, having all the four sides stone masonry and two sides stone steps, to have the large en-catchment area to collect the maximum rain water, and also connected with various internal water storages and sources built in the fort.The fortification with the most different specialities, water storage system, as architect and King were well aware of the basic need that Water is life, to ensure this most important requirement special care was taken out during construction
