Panchachuli Glacier

A trekker's paradise, the Panchachuli Glacier can be reached by a 40 km trek from Sobla, and is a one of a kind trek, the track is outlined by snow capped mountains and lush alpine meadows. The is of a medium testing range, but then, at the end of a tough climb, is an overcompensating view and the exhilaration of achievement. If you have about 2-3 days to spare, and a heart to keep up, do not miss this trek for anything.

Nanda Devi Temple

The Kumaoni culture, almost always relates everything monumental in the city with Gods. There is a huge culture of deity worship, and the number of those deities can be dizzying. But all the mythology and stories make up for a believable and memorable story to take back with you. The Nanda Devi temple is your iconic structure of typical Kumaoni architecture. It is dated back to 1000 years, and naturally, well preserved. The Nanda Devi Fair, that started in the 16th century, continues here, and falls every August, much to the delight to all the lovers of lesser known mythologies.

The blooms around the Ashram are in full strength, while the Ashram itself houses a library and a meditation room as well. The socio-education centre is a place where you can learn in the lap of serenity and nature, and makes your trip a well rounded one.

Jim Corbett National Park

Corbett National Park, set amidst the foothills of Himalayas, houses a variety of flora and fauna including rare ones such as tigers and is a treat for wildlife enthusiasts and photographers. The oldest National Park in India, Jim Corbett National Park was established in 1936 as Hailey National Park and is home to the critically endangered species of the Royal Bengal Tiger. Located in the foothills of the Himalayas and along the banks of Ramaganga River, it is home to around 50 species of trees, 580 bird species and 50 species of animals along with 25 reptile species spread over an area of more than 500 sq km covering riverine belts, hills, marshy depressions, lakes, streams and grasslands. The Park is divided into 5 zones namely Bijrani, Dhikala, Jhirna, Domunda and Sonanandi and all of them have different gates. A visit to Corbett National Park is incomplete without a jungle safari, so make sure you go for a safari.

Bhimtal Lake

Bhimtal Lake, one of the most famous lakes in India, is located in the Bhimtal town of the north Indian state of Uttarakhand. An island at the centre of the Lake is a famous tourist attraction and also houses an aquarium with a variety of fish species and a temple. In the Kumaon region, which is also known as the Lake district of India, the Bhimtal lake is the largest lake and supplies drinking water to the town and supports aquaculture in the region. Today, the lake has been opened for tourists and has a variety of activities in and around the lake. Morning walks are especially recommended for those who want to avoid the tourist crowd. The tranquil atmosphere of the lake is sure to make you want to come back again and again. The Bhimtal Lake is located at an elevation of over 4500 feet, in the Nainital district of Uttarakhand. It is a 'C' shaped lake that expands over an area of 47 hectares. During some months in a year, the otherwise clear lake water turns brown due to infused animalcule. Locals believe that only after the lake claims a victim does the brown colour disappears, and the water becomes clear again. The surroundings of the Bhimtal Lake are well maintained and clean offering a pleasant experience to everyone visiting it. One can go boating or take a long walk along the banks and feed the ducks during dawn or dusk. The vibe, wholly tranquil and serene, will mesmerise you as you wrap up a busy vacation day schedule at the lake.

Naini Lake

Nestled amidst the township of Nainital, Naini Lake is a beautiful natural fresh body lake. The lake is in crescent or kidney shape and is one of the famous lakes of the Kumaon region. Bounded by Naini Peak on North West, Tiffin Point on the South West and snow-capped peaks on the north, the lake offers a breathtaking view, especially during early morning and sunset. Coniferous trees that cover the hillside add charm to the raw beauty of the place. One can also visit Naini Temple on the shores of the lake. A pretty lake that once a European man fell in love with, Naini Lake today serves as a major tourist spot for people from all over the country. The Naini Lake is a charming beauty that is surrounded by seven different peaks namely Ayarpata, Deopata, Handi Bandi, Cheena Peak, Alma, Laria Kanta and Sher Ka Danda. The lake itself can be divided into two distinct sections, the northern part called Mallital and southern region called Tallital. Naini Lake is most famous for its wonderful scenic beauty which is a hotspot for family picnics. Boating, long evening walks and endearing interactions with ducks are some of the things that are a must do whilst visiting this glittering lake. You can also seek the blessings of Goddess Naina Devi at the Naina Devi temple which is also situated near the Naini Lake.

If something different is what you're looking for, you may want to try stoles that are hand made by the Kumaoni women out of stinging nettle, woven into a soft fabric.
